Frequently Asked Questions: Q. What Is LabVIEW? A. A graphical based computer programming language from National
Instruments Just celebrated its 22nd
anniversary, LabVIEW was developed for engineers and scientists and has no text-based
code, only a data-flow chart known as a Block Diagram. Q. Can you produce an application/LabVIEW drivers for
my old instrument or machine? A. In many cases we can! It depends on 2 things: the bus (or connection)
the instrument uses to communicate with the computer, and how much original
information there is available for it. If it uses a ‘standard’ bus (GPIB,
serial, CAN, Ethernet etc..) and you have the original command set, driver
development is often straightforward. If your instrument uses a proprietary
bus, or you have no access to the commands used to drive it (often in the original
manual), development can be more difficult. Please contact us and one of our
engineers will be able to make a thorough assessment at your site. Q. What is the best way to become trained in LabVIEW? A. The LabVIEW Basics, Intermediate and Advanced courses run by NI are
the best way to get a full grounding in all aspects of LabVIEW programming.
See www.ni.com/training. Develop-ing Solutions can provide our own highly tailored training days on specialist subjects – eg: Instrument Driver design, distributed solutions, web-based or real time systems. We also train your LabVIEW staff as we work through a project, so we can transfer the best of our knowledge to your staff throughout our involvement. |
